Sustainability

The ISN and WCN’24 hosts SAN and SLANH are acting as sustainability and environmentally responsible throughout the organization. Several actions are already identified which will reduce the congress’ environmental impact. See a few of the initiatives below. For any questions, ideas or suggestions, please contact us infowcn@theisn.org.

Reduce printed materials

WCN will no longer print an abstract book, an extended program book or daily newspaper. All publications will be provided in digital formats. We will make maximum use of digital signage and digital communication channels available at the venue.

Community impact

The organizers will encourage that any materials that will be produced, such as congress bags or giveaways are made out of recycled or recyclable materials, and will have a positive impact on the local community. Information on community projects will be available on this page later.

Sustainable food practices

Food & Beverage being one of the heaviest components, after travel, of the meeting when it comes to carbon footprint, the organizers aim to use the most environmentally friendly containers, cups, etc. for catered events. We work with caterers to source local and seasonal ingredients and a larger part of selected menu items will be vegetarian or plant-based options. To prevent waste, we also encourage participants to bring their own water bottles. The organizers will make water stations available.

Venue and other vendors

With sustainability as a priority, the Buenos Aires Convention Center’s underground construction allowed the preservation of surrounding green spaces and trees. The venue’s innovative sustainable design features solar panels, a careful use of natural light to conserve energy, and rainwater collection for re-use within the facility. Read more about the venue’s sustainability practices here.

The organizers will select and appoint vendors with sustainable practices in place and will work actively with all involved on the most sustainable organization.

Carbon offsetting

The organizers encourage those traveling to the congress to offset their CO2 emissions.
