ISN Fellowship Abstract Award: 3rd Prize

ISN Fellowship Abstract Awards recognize the three top-scored WCN’24 abstracts submitted by recent ISN Fellows.

Dr. Rabeea Azmat currently works as an assistant professor and consultant nephrologist at the Aga Khan University Pakistan, in Karachi, Pakistan. Coming from a society where women continue to encounter formidable barriers to entering competitive fields like nephrology, she embraced the challenge with unwavering determination. Despite the odds, supported by her late mother, the encouragement of her husband, and the solidarity of her family, she achieved a significant milestone by securing the ISN Fellowship during the tumultuous era of the COVID-19 pandemic. Her journey was arduous yet made possible through the guidance of Dr. Zainab Samad (Pakistan), the chairwoman; Dr. Durga Kanigichierla (UK), her supervisor; and the collective support of the kidney team at Manchester Royal Infirmary. As a medical graduate from Pakistan, she completed postgraduate training in her homeland, driven by a deep-rooted passion for healthcare.

Dr. Azmat states, “The opportunity provided by ISN for this fellowship is not just a professional milestone but a personal honor. As Helen Keller once said, ‘Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.’ This fellowship embodies the power of collaboration and the potential for transformative change in the medical field.”

The Fellowship Abstract Awards will be presented in WCN ‘ISN Programs Awards’ on Sunday, April 14, 2024, from 6-7:00 pm Argentina Time, on Spotlight Stage 1 (exhibition hall).
