Dr. Motoko Yanagita is the first Professor and Chair of Department of Nephrology at Kyoto University Graduate School of Medicine, Kyoto, Japan since 2011.
She received her M.D. and Ph.D. at Kyoto University and residency training at Kyoto University Hospital. Dr. Yanagita is a physician scientist conducting basic and clinical research. Her basic research area is the pathophysiology of kidney injury and repair process, and her current research focuses on the identification of cellular origin of kidney regeneration and fibrosis as well as the intracellular crosstalk in the progression of kidney disease. Her clinical research area is Onconephrology, a new area connecting oncology and nephrology.
Dr. Yanagita is the elected member of American Society of Clinical Investigation since 2013, and the executive supervisor of the Japanese Society of Nephrology. She is the 2024 ISN Bywaters Award winner, and will receive her award in WCN Plenary Session 4 on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, taking place from 11:00 am – 12:15 pm Argentina Time in Hall A.
