Dr. Carmine Zoccali’s research interests cover hypertension, cardiovascular complications in CKD, kidney disease progression, and the epidemiology of kidney diseases. He has contributed over 800 PubMed indexed publications in peer reviewed journals and as of March 2024, he has an h-index (Google Scholar) of 129 (78 since 2019). He is an active editorial board member of CJASN, Am J Kidney Diseases, J Clinical Medicine, Clinical Nephrology, and other internal medicine and nephrology journals.
Dr. Zoccali was chairman of the European Renal Association – European Dialysis and Transplant Association (ERA-EDTA) Registry of Dialysis and Transplantation (2003-2009), president of the Italian Society of Nephrology (2007-2008), and president of the ERA-EDTA for the June triennium 2017-2020. He is a member to 10 national and international societies of nephrology and hypertension, Fellow of the American Society of Nephrology (FASN), the ERA-EDTA (FERA), and the American Kidney Foundation (FNKF), and honorary member of the Spanish Society of Nephrology and the Polish Society of Nephrology.
Dr. Zoccali has received international awards by the American Kidney Foundation, the Richard Yu award by the Hong Kong Society of Nephrology and the Borelli Foundation, and a honoris causa doctorate by the University of Oviedo (Spain), Patras (Greece), and Thessaloniki (Greece).
