Dr. Masao Iwagami is a Japanese clinical epidemiologist and Associate Professor in the Department of Health Services Research, University of Tsukuba, Japan, and Honorary Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Epidemiology and Population Health, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), UK. He graduated from the University of Tokyo in 2008, completed his internship and nephrology residency in Japanese hospitals, received the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates certificate in the USA in 2010, and worked as a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Haemodialysis and Apheresis, the University of Tokyo Hospital in 2013, supervised by Dr. Eisei Noiri, Dr. Kent Doi, and Dr. Masaomi Nangaku. He studied clinical epidemiology at the School of Public Health, the University of Tokyo in 2012, an MSc Epidemiology in 2013/2014, and PhD Epidemiology and Population Health in 2014-2018 at LSHTM. His PhD supervisors were Dr. Dorothea Nitsch and Dr. Laurie Tomlinson, and his thesis title was “Associations between chronic kidney disease and mental health disorders and psychoactive drugs in the UK general population”.
