APSN Haiyan Wang Lecture
The Asian Pacific Society of Nephrology (APSN) Haiyan Wang Lecture recognizes individuals who have made substantial contributions to the clinical or translational science and development of nephrology service and education in the Asia Pacific region.
Professor Somchai Eiam-Ong is a senior nephrologist in the Division of Nephrology, Department of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, at Chulalongkorn University, Chulalongkorn Hospital, in Bangkok, Thailand. He completed his medical degree at Chulalongkorn University Hospital and following his internal medicine residency and nephrology fellowship, he joined the faculty, becoming a professor in 1995.
He has held multiple leadership roles during his career: member of the ISN’s council, member of the Declaration of Istanbul Custodian Group (DICG) council, president of the Nephrology Society of Thailand, chairman of the Department of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, of Chulalongkorn University, and president of the Royal College of Physicians of Thailand. He is currently the president of the ASEAN Federation of Internal Medicine (AFIM), and member of the administrative committee of the Medical Council of Thailand.
His research fields include kidney acidification, CKD, and KRT. He has published over 300 original articles and 15 chapters in international journals and textbooks, respectively. He has published over 20 sets of Thai textbooks of kidney-related disorders which have been utilized in Thailand and neighbouring countries such as the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, as the standard kidney textbooks for healthcare personnel.
Professor Eiam-Ong will give the Haiyan Wang Lecture in the APSN Awards Session: Kenzo Oshima Award, Excellence in Basic Science Award, and Haiyan Wang Lecture on Friday, March 31, 2023, from 14:15-15:15 Bangkok time in MR 110 ABC.
