Gérard Lambeau
2022 KI Best Reviewer
KI reviewers were evaluated by the number of reviews they completed in 2022, the quality of each review as assessed by the Kidney International Associate Editors, and the length of time manuscripts were under review.
Dr. Gérard Lambeau is the Director of Research at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) and team leader at the Institute of Molecular and Cellular Pharmacology (IPMC), in Valbonne Sophia Antipolis, France. His team’s focus is on the family of secreted phospholipases A2 (sPLA2s) and their receptor PLA2R1, with 30+ years of expertise in this specific area of research. The team has discovered and cloned PLA2R1 and most human sPLA2s and has developed unique tools for PLA2R1 and sPLA2 research. Work from the team and international collaborators has led to the discovery of various functions of sPLA2s and PLA2R1 in physiology and pathophysiology.
The current research is translational, from bench to bedside, with PLA2R1 and sPLA2s identified as biomarkers and drug targets in cardiovascular and inflammatory diseases, cancers, and infections. Over the last decade, the team’s work has been instrumental in the identification of PLA2R1 and THSD7A as two main autoantigens in membranous nephropathy, a rare autoimmune kidney disease. The research has led to a paradigm shift in patients’ healthcare over the last decade.
The KI Best Reviewers will be acknowledged in the Editors’ Pick of ISN Journals: KI and KIR session taking place Saturday, April 1, 2023, 08:30-10:00 Bangkok time, in MR 110 ABC.
