ISN Clinical Research Award: 2nd Place
ISN Clinical Research Awards recognize the three top-scored WCN’23 abstracts related to projects funded by the ISN Clinical Research Program.
Dr. Bala Waziri is a consultant nephrologist from Nigeria with a MSc in epidemiology and biostatistics with a distinction. He completed his ISN fellowship training at Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital. His research work has been in the area of chronic kidney disease – mineral bone disease. Other areas of interest include, but are not limited to, anemia in chronic kidney disease and preventive nephrology. Based on his research potential, his research proposal was among the few that were granted the AstraZeneca research award in 2016, South Africa; he won the third position of the ISN Fellows poster presentation at the World Congress of Nephrology 2017 in Mexico; he was runner up for the University of the Witwatersrand faculty of health sciences’ most prestigious postgraduate award in 2020, master’s category; and an ISN clinical research grant in 2019.
He comments, “I am immensely grateful to ISN for giving me the opportunity in advancing my nephrology career.”
