A diverse program packed with science and activities began today with the official launch of WCN'23.
|
After a successful day of pre-congress courses and the Professor Donal O’Donoghue Global Kidney
Policy Forum, the opening ceremony took place in the early evening with a presidential address from
Agnes B. Fogo. Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn
of the Kingdom of Thailand graced the occasion with her remarks and formally opened the congress.

The Professor Donal O’Donoghue Global Kidney Policy Forum 2023: Focus on Oceania & South East
Asia
|
|
|
The fifth edition of the Global Kidney Policy Forum (GKPF) was held this morning. The
meeting was opened by WHO representative Dr. Bente Mikkelsen, Vice
Public Health Minister of the Thai Royal government Dr. Sophon Mekthon,
and Dr. Jadej Thammaaree,
|
|
Secretary General of the Thai National Health Security Office.
It gathered decision makers and stakeholders, including people living with kidney diseases, and
internationally-renowned nephrologists to review the burden of kidney disease in the ISN
Oceania and South East Asia (OSEA) region.
|
The ISN launched the 2023 Global Kidney Health Atlas at the GKPF. Download your copy of the

The GKPF concluded by announcing updated recommendations to
guide future efforts to reduce the burden of kidney disease worldwide.

Plenary Session: Dispelling the Myths of Providing Dialysis in Low- and Middle-income Countries
- the Stewart Cameron Lecture
|
|
The first plenary session on the myths of dialysis in low-resource countries was
delivered by Yot Teerawattananonand (Thailand). He addressed the
challenges of providing treatment for patients with kidney failure in resource-scarce
settings, providing examples of areas that have successfully implemented public policies
for kidney care.
