What difference did you make through your Sister Center partnership?
The initial aim of the partnership was to establish the first Nephrology Critical Care Service to treat disorders of fluids, electrolytes and acid-base disorders, as well as to improve the care of patients with acute kidney injury (AKI), establishing an acute dialysis unit with the capacity of providing CRRT and establishing an AKI research program. The initial aim has grown into a multifaceted alliance that combines mentorship and the exchange of educational information with capacity building and direct healthcare assistance. SCR program has been a great way to open minds and change habits in a short period of time. Medical and healthcare staff at the Emerging Center were touched by this program that stimulates the will to set higher standards. Hospital Obrero No 2 – CNS (Universidad Mayor de San Simon, School of Medicine) has become a center of excellence, where patients benefit from a higher quality of care. The knowledge that Hospital Obrero No 2 - CNS nephrologists, nurses, and residents have acquired has spread to the surrounding medical community inspiring young nephrologists. We want to continue our growth and development to becoming a center of excellence and to continue improving the standard of kidney care in the region. We would like to support another emerging center to build its own identity and expertise.
