“These three weeks undoubtedly were the best medical educational experience we’ve ever had. The knowledge we got there and motivation we acquired will surely work for our personal and our patients’ benefits.”
The quote above is from one of the Internship reports of a young fellow from the Emerging Center after coming back to work. This citation most accurately describes the achievements of their more than 6-year collaboration. The cooperation between both centers was the motivation for young fellows from the Emerging Center to improve their professional skills.
Major highlights from their 6-year journey on the ISN Sister Renal Center (SRC) Program are as follows:
- commencement of utilization of SLEDD and citrate anticoagulation in critically ill patients in ICUs
- willingness to share clinical experience with other centers, either locally or regionally
- improvement of kidney pathology service
- creation of good kidney pathology service in Minsk and all over the country
- progression in follow-up after kidney transplant recipients on ambulatory level.
Through their collaboration in the ISN SRC Program, both centers were able to build stable nephrology systematic care, not just at the Emerging Center in Belarus, but throughout all of Belarus. The Emerging Center is now ready to train another center from the region and have had some preliminary contacts with a hospital in Georgia.
