Young Nephrologists Award – Best Basic Science Abstract
Dr. Phillip McCown is a computational biologist in the laboratory of Dr. Matthias Kretzler in the Department of Internal Medicine within Michigan Medicine at the University of Michigan, USA. His current research employs systems biological approaches in examining several kidney diseases, their mechanisms, and possible interventions at the resolution of the single cell or single nucleus from patient kidney biopsies. His current research endeavors stem from his prior Ph.D. training in riboswitches and ribozymes in the laboratory of Dr. Ronald Breaker at Yale University and postdoctoral training in the long noncoding RNA MALAT1 in the laboratory of Dr. Jessica Brown at the University of Notre Dame.
Winning abstract: Identifying renal-derived TNF target activation in minimal change disease and focal segmental glomerulosclerosis.
