Region: Western Europe
How does this publication help advance kidney health worldwide?
This study shows considerable variation in blood pressure control in patients with chronic kidney disease worldwide that is only partly explained by individual characteristics. The international comparison of antihypertensive prescription patterns highlights wide heterogeneity both in the number and types of drug classes indicating opportunities for improvement in many countries.
How did this publication enable you to advance kidney health in your home country?
Hypertension control was found to be poorer in CKD cohorts in India, South America, and Europe, particularly in France, than in those in North America and high-income Asia. These findings have been widely disseminated among the French-speaking nephrology community, triggering discussions about best clinical practices in blood pressure management.
This iNET-CKD (ISN International Network of Chronic Kidney Disease cohort studies) study shows that patterns of antihypertensive drug prescription are likely to play an important role in uncontrolled hypertension. However, further investigation is needed to identify barriers in achieving treatment goals, especially with regards to the 2021 KDIGO Clinical Practice Guideline for the Management of Blood Pressure in CKD.
