2024 KI-ISN Early Career Researcher: Basic Science

KI-ISN Early Career Researcher Awards recognize outstanding research in basic and clinical science published in Kidney International®(KI) in the year leading up to WCN.

Dr. Valeryia Kuzmuk serves as the Lead Disease Scientist at MultiOmic Health in London, England. She is an accomplished biochemist and translational scientist recognised for her innovative contributions to nephrology research.

Dr. Kuzmuk earned her degree and PhD in Translational Health from the University of Bristol in Bristol, England, focusing on advanced in vitro and in vivo modelling of the kidney, with a subsequent post doc in lab-based research for small molecule renal drug discovery. She began her career as the first employee of Purespring Therapeutics in London where the results from her research laid the scientific groundwork for the foundation of the company. At Purespring, she led assay development, preclinical studies, and advanced therapeutic research, contributing to the company’s rapid growth in the gene and cell therapy field.

Dr. Kuzmuk’s current role at MultiOmic Health positions her at the forefront of precision medicine for chronic kidney disease and diabetic kidney disease. She focuses on leading wet lab strategy for preclinical validation of novel therapeutic targets and patient-stratifying biomarkers tailored to specific patient subpopulations. Her efforts aim to bridge the gap between molecular insights and clinical applications, delivering transformative solutions to patients worldwide.
