ISN-KI Editorial Fellows are early–career professionals and academics working in the field of nephrology, dialysis, and transplantation, who work and learn with the Kidney International® editorial team for two years.

Dr. Sahar H. Koubar is an assistant professor of medicine at the University of Minnesota (UMN) in Minneapolis-Saint Paul, Minnesota, USA. Prior to joining UMN, she held the position of Vandyke Medical Educator in the School of Medicine of the American University of Beirut in Beirut, Lebanon, and served as the nephrology fellowship program director from 2018 to 2022.

Dr. Koubar earned her medical degree from Beirut Arab University in Beirut. She completed her internal medicine residency training at both the American University of Beirut and Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, USA, followed by a nephrology fellowship at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, USA.

Dr. Koubar’s clinical and research interests span glomerular diseases, pregnancy-related kidney diseases, conservative kidney management (CKM), monoclonal gammopathy of renal significance (MGRS), and conflict nephrology. She is an active member of the ISN-CKM working group and also contributes as an instructor for the Glomerular Disease Study & Trial Consortium (GlomCon).

Dr. Koubar has been recognized for her exceptional contributions to medicine and education, receiving the GOLD Humanism Award and the Connie Maske Award for Excellence in Teaching, both in 2022. Beyond her professional commitments, she enjoys photography, painting, poetry, and hiking.
