Mentorship Abstract Award 3rd Prize
ISN Mentorship Abstract Awards recognize the three top-scored WCN’25 abstracts submitted by recent ISN mentees after collaboration with their mentors in the ISN Mentorship Program.
Dr. Mirha Pjanic is a fourth-year nephrology trainee in the Department of Nephrology, Dialysis, and Kidney Transplantation at the University Clinical Center (UCC) in Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The renal unit at UCC participated in the ISN Sister Renal Centers Program, collaborating with the Renal Department of the Royal Preston Hospital, UK, in 2014; the partnership graduated from the program in 2023.
Since 2023, Dr. Pjanic has participated in the ISN Mentorship Program, working with her mentor, Professor Nikolina Basic-Jukic from Zagreb, Croatia. Through this collaboration and together with another mentor from her own institution, Professor Mirna Aleckovic-Halilovic, they are committed to strengthening regional collaboration in the Balkans.
Dr. Pjanic believes that “There are two ways of spreading light: to be the candle or the mirror that reflects it.” She states, “Being a member of the ISN community has profoundly influenced my education and practice of renal medicine at my university hospital and in my country. I hope my work at the patient bedside, research, and regional collaboration will make a meaningful difference in my community, benefit my colleagues, and improve care for our kidney patients.”
Abstract: JC Virus is Underestimated in Kidney Transplant Recipients
