Dr. François Briand is the Director of Research and Business Development at Physiogenex, a leading CRO, providing preclinical services and animal models of obesity, type 2 diabetes and related comorbidities, to evaluate the efficacy of therapies developed by the pharmaceutical industry.

Dr. Briand earned his Ph.D. in Nutrition and Metabolism in 2006 from the University of Nantes, France. It dealt with the development of a canine model of obesity and insulin resistance, for evaluating drugs targeting type 2 diabetes and diabetic dyslipidemia.

In 2006, he worked as a post-doctoral fellow in the laboratory of Pr. Daniel J. Rader at the University of Pennsylvania (Penn) in Philadelphia, USA. In collaboration with major pharmaceutical companies, his work focused on novel drugs affecting lipoprotein metabolism and reverse cholesterol transport in various mouse models.

Dr. Briand then joined Physiogenex and has served as an expert in metabolic diseases since 2007. He has worked extensively on the development of new in vivo assays and animal models of obesity/type 2 diabetes and related co-morbidities, all presented in >120 international meetings and >30 publications.

In 2016, Dr. Briand received the ASBMB Journal of Lipid Research Junior Investigator Award, as well as the Berman-Zech Award in 2018, for his research work on preclinical evaluation of drugs targeting obesity, type 2 diabetes, dyslipidemia, chronic kidney diseases and MASH.

In 2022, Dr. Briand received the Paul Dudley White International Scholar Award of the American Heart Association for his research work on the severity of SARS-CoV-2 infection in a diet-induced obese hamster model.
