2024 KI-ISN Early Career Researcher: Clinical Science
KI-ISN Early Career Researcher Awards recognize outstanding research in basic and clinical science published in Kidney International®(KI) in the year leading up to WCN.
Dr. Becky Ma is a clinical assistant professor of practice in the Department of Medicine, School of Clinical Medicine, of the University of Hong Kong in Pok Fu Lam, Hong Kong. She graduated from the University of Hong Kong with distinctions. She underwent her training in nephrology and advanced internal medicine at Queen Mary Hospital, Hong Kong, and achieved the highest score in internal medicine exit examination, highest score in nephrology exit examination, awarded the best thesis gold award and distinguished young fellow by the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine.
Dr. Ma has great interest in monogenetic kidney diseases and is passionate in becoming a clinician-scientist. She undertook a postdoctoral research fellowship in precision medicine at Columbia University Center for Precision Medicine and Genomics in New York, New York, USA. She was awarded the Hong Kong Health and Medical Research Fund Research Fellowship Grant and Hong Kong College of Physicians-Hong Kong Genome Institute Training Grant for excellence in genomic medicine.
Dr. Ma has been accredited as the First Genetics and Genomics Fellow in Hong Kong by the College of Physicians. She established a local cohort of genetic kidney disease and helped to set up the Genetic Kidney Disease Clinics at Queen Mary Hospital, which aims to help people with genetic kidney disease achieve accurate molecular diagnosis and derive personalized prevention and treatment strategies.
Dr. Ma has been selected as one of the ISN Emerging Leaders by the ISN Emerging Leaders Program and is participating in developing toolkits for clinicians and educational curriculum on genetic kidney disease.
