ISN-IPNA Webinar: AKI across the lifespan

The ISN, in partnership with the International Pediatric Nephrology Association (IPNA) are pleased to invite you to the Webinar: AKI across the lifespan.

Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) occurs commonly in hospitalized patients and is associated with increased risk of poor outcomes including hospital length of stay development of chronic kidney disease and for patients admitted to the ICU, mortality.  AKI more often results from another systemic illness and/or its treatment. As opposed to other kidney diseases like CKD, hypertension, glomerulonephritis, the most common causes of AKI are similar across the lifespan, with nephrotoxic medication associated AKI and sepsis associated AKI most prominent. The past two decades have witnessed an enormous increase in AKI related research, that has resulted in improved risk stratification, biomarker development and validation and acute kidney replacement therapy technology. Clinical research advancements in adult and pediatric populations have informed each other. We will discuss these across the lifespan.

Objectives

  1. Review the major AKI epidemiological studies in critically ill patients across the lifespan
  2. Discuss the evolution of AKI biomarker development, and realized and yet to be realized promise for application in clinical practice.
  3. Highlight recent multi-center quality improvement research endeavors that have decreased AKI in either the pediatric or adult hospitalized populations
