What difference did you make through your Educational Ambassadors training?
2017: Invited by Dr Anthony Were to visit his team in Kenya to share knowledge and best practice.
2018: First visit – Assessment
Scoping exercise and learning gap analysis to explore challenges in learning and clinical practice and to prioritise areas for support. 5 areas were identified with vascular access as number 1.
2019: Second visit – Implementation
Team including nurses Marie Richards, Stefaan Claus, Thandiwe Ncobo and Vascular Surgeon, Dr Simon Fraser.
In collaboration with the Kenyatta team we created 22 new AVF and delivered 5 days of education and clinical support with management and care of AVF, cannulation and surveillance.
What does the future look like?
2020 – 3rd visit – Evaluation and Continued Implementation
Postponed due to Pandemic but we have maintained communication and intend to resume our collaboration with our Kenyan colleagues and continue the valuable sharing of knowledge and best practice as soon as the world reopens.
