The ISN clinical research grant helped fund my PhD project, leading to five publications in peritoneal dialysis international and nephrology dialysis transplantation, among other journals, and attaining a PhD degree. Kidney diseases attributed to communicable diseases such as HIV and limited kidney care access continue to challenge Sub-sahara Africa. Thus, my ISN clinical research project focused on the outcomes of peritoneal dialysis in managing end-stage kidney failure in HIV-positive patients. The research skills gained have contributed significantly to my clinical research development and helped advance my academic career.
I am currently the head of the division of Nephrology and Hypertension at the University of Cape Town, with a mandate to continue the unit’s long tradition of excellence and promote increased nephrology training, kidney care access and research focused on kidney diseases of interest to African populations.
