How did the ISN support enable you to advance kidney health in your home country?
During my ISN fellowship (2017-2018) in the UTHSC (Memphis, TN, USA), I have gained advanced skills in clinical epidemiology and research methodology, had a chance to work with a big cohort of CKD patients, and significantly improved my statistical skills. My greatest thanks to my mentors Dr. Kovesdy and Dr. Molnar for their valuable supervision.
After my return home, I started my job at the Nazarbayev University and initiated to study the epidemiology of dialysis and kidney transplant patients in Kazakhstan. The ISN-supported fellowship and gained experience in research methodology allowed me to a won a couple of research grants.
What does the future look like?
I would like to continue my study on CKD epidemiology and beyond, including many chronic non-communicable and communicable diseases with the major causes of death and ESRD in Kazakhstan as well as other neighboring central Asian countries.
