Exploring Environmental Stressors and Adaptation: Marine Biology Meets Kidney Health

Tamar Lotan from the University of Haifa will present the WCN’25 Claude Amiel Lecture “Environmental Stressors and Adaptation Mechanisms: From Marine Organism to (Kidney) Health Care.” This plenary session explores how insights from marine biology can drive innovation in kidney care.

Professor Lotan specializes in cnidarians — jellyfish, corals, and sea anemones — and their extraordinary adaptability and regenerative abilities. Her pioneering research applies molecular biology, multi-omics, and advanced imaging techniques to understand these ancient organisms.

Through her biotech ventures, Professor Lotan has adapted cnidarian stinging mechanisms for healthcare applications, including drug delivery. Her lecture will reveal how nature’s resilience under extreme stress can inspire groundbreaking approaches to human health, including kidney care.

Register for WCN’25 and discover how environmental stress research could help shape the future of kidney care!
