Celebrating ISN’s 2024 Publications: Driving Kidney Research for Better Patient Outcomes 

As we step into 2025, we reflect on the impactful ISN-led research of 2024. These studies deepen our understanding of kidney health and advance global kidney care as a health priority. Below, we highlight some of the year’s key contributions:   

Published in The Lancet Global Health, the ISN-Global Kidney Health Atlas (ISN-GKHA) paper provided updated insights into disparities in kidney disease burden and care across regions, influencing global health priorities. Find out more 

The position statement, published in Kidney International®, offers key guidance on kidney biopsies for individuals suspected of CKDu in endemic regions. Read more 

The consensus, published in Nature Reviews Nephrology, calls attention to chronic kidney disease as a major contributor to premature mortality from noncommunicable diseases, calling for urgent action in prevention, care access, education, and research funding. Learn more 

PLOS Medicine featured a paper assessing the ISN’s simple scoring system for early acute kidney disease detection and its potential to improve outcomes in resource-limited settings. Read more 

Published in The BMJ, this paper used data from the ISN-GKHA 2019 and 2023 reports to highlight advances in public funding and service availability for kidney replacement therapy, with insights into remaining barriers. Learn more
