ISN’s Global Kidney Health Atlas 2023 Data Highlights Kidney Care Inequalities in New Supplement Release
The Nephrology Dialysis Transplantation (NDT) Supplement “Current Status of Kidney Care Services Across Countries: A Report from the International Society of Nephrology Global Kidney Health Atlas (ISN-GKHA)“ presents results from the third edition of the ISN-Global Kidney Health Atlas in a curated selection of articles relevant to public policy on kidney care.
The articles highlight significant challenges that drive inequalities in kidney care worldwide, including:
- Gaps in funding, reimbursement, and service delivery for kidney replacement therapy (KRT) and chronic kidney disease (CKD) care
- Disparities in the availability, accessibility, and quality of dialysis and kidney transplantation
- Limitations in non-dialytic kidney failure management, including infrastructure and medications
- Critical shortages in the global nephrology workforce
- Global data monitoring and surveillance capacity for effective policy and governance
Each piece presents a data summary and outlines steps to advance sustainable and equitable kidney care globally. Focusing on these issues aims to alert key policymakers at all levels to the urgent threat of kidney failure and its implications for public health.
