The ISN community mourns the passing of Barry M. Brenner, a towering figure in the field of nephrology whose contributions have had a profound and lasting impact on global kidney health. As a co-chair of the ISN’s Commission for the Global Advancement of Nephrology (COMGAN) from 1995 to 1999, Brenner’s vision and leadership were instrumental in shaping the ISN’s capacity-building initiatives that continue to benefit nephrology communities in low- and middle-income countries worldwide.
Dr. Brenner’s pioneering research, particularly his groundbreaking work on glomerular hyperfiltration, reshaped our understanding of kidney disease progression and led to therapies that have saved countless lives.
