Tackling the CKDu Puzzle: Read the ISN i3C Working Group’s Position Statement on Kidney Biopsies

Despite ongoing efforts, chronic kidney disease of unknown origin (CKDu) remains a significant, persistent problem in several world regions. The ISN i3C (CKDu) Working Group has written a comprehensive position statement offering vital guidance and recommendations for kidney biopsies in individuals suspected of CKDu.

Read “Kidney Biopsies Among Persons Living in Hotspots of CKDu: A Position Statement From the International Society of Nephrology’s Consortium of Collaborators on CKDu” here.

This statement, led by Shuchi Anand and Eranga Wijewickrama – chair and deputy chair of the ISN i3C Working Group – and written in collaboration with other international CKDu experts who are ISN i3C Network members, has now been published in Kidney International®.

This position paper aims to provide clinicians in CKDu hotspots with a framework for personalized discussions while acknowledging the practical challenges of rigorous, research-based biopsy approaches.
