Learning Among Kidney Care Professionals From all Over the World – My First World Congress of Nephrology
By Mohamed Abdalbary
The unique thing about the World Congress of Nephrology (WCN) is that as well as being an elegant scientific gathering with high-end topics in nephrology, it gathers together people involved in kidney care from all over the world. The organizers do a great job of representing different cultures and geographical areas.
As an early-career nephrologist from a developing country, I am excited to attend my first WCN this year. I finished my ISN Fellowship last year, which was when I had the idea for the abstract I am presenting at this year’s congress. I encourage all young nephrologists to make the best of ISN-supported programs for low- and middle-income countries. With this kind of support, we can improve patient care and develop our careers.
A second but important reason for my excitement is the location: Bangkok is one of the most visited cities in the world, hosting millions of tourists every year. I researched the city online before coming and I am not disappointed so far! I can’t wait to fully explore its beauty and character after the congress!
When the ISN released the WCN’23 program, I compiled a personal timetable of sessions and events I wanted to attend. I’ve been following this schedule and am pleased with the results! The speakers present goldmines of information – it’s incredible what you can learn in one short session! I am enjoying the latest scientific content and getting to know other nephrologists from all over the world. The Sister Renal Centers Programs ‘Spotlight Sessions’ was a definite highlight today. I’m looking forward to hearing the ISN grant recipient success stories tomorrow.
This is my first WCN, but it won’t be the last! I am returning home full of new ideas and experiences.
