Hot off the Press! Exciting New Features at WCN’23 From the ISN Events Team

We asked the ISN events director to tell us all about new additions to this year’s congress and the best ways to mingle.

What new features can we expect at the upcoming edition of ISN’s annual world congress?

New for this world congress will be “Table Talks” – a varied schedule of moderated group discussions on different issues. This format was initially introduced during the virtual editions held in 2021 and 2022 as “topical networking sessions.” We’ve now adapted these for our in-person event.

These table talk sessions will connect people interested in the same topics and should generate exciting discussions and debates with the potential to spark collaborative professional projects. You can already choose the table talk topics you’re interested in here. Of course, delegates can mingle freely and network informally in the exhibition area and poster hall as well.

We’re very excited to introduce the “Kidney Studio,” a hub for the ISN’s Social Media and Academy teams to record interviews, podcasts and videos. We’ll be talking to ISN leadership, committee members and congress speakers about unmissable sessions and activities in store for delegates. Follow the ISN social media platforms and hashtags* to stay in the loop!

We’ve also taken a fresh approach to the regular WCN features that delegates have come to look forward to each year. Look out for interactive and dynamic sessions at the Spotlight Stage, like the social media quiz, ELP-led discussions, and the highly anticipated launch of the 2023 ISN-Global Kidney Health Atlas and Community Film Event. Visit the Global Kidney Village during WCN to discover more about the affiliated and collective societies ISN works with and other ISN partners.

What advice would you give delegates looking to expand their professional network and circle of friends?

Mingle, mingle, mingle! Don’t be shy! WCN’23 hosts the most diverse global community advancing kidney health. Extraordinary things happen when people come together in person as a community, so make sure you take part in all the congress has to offer – attend the networking events, introduce yourself to the person sitting next to you, come to the ISN stand to meet staff and leaders, talk to a stranger! In these moments, the most valuable ideas and connections can take shape.

Is there anything else you would like to tell us about WCN’23?

I want to commend the hundreds of volunteers that have dedicated their time to help produce this must-attend event in a fantastic city and venue.

Special thanks go to our hosts, the Asian Pacific Society of Nephrology and the Nephrology Society of Thailand, the Scientific Program Working Group, Emerging Leaders Program and Young Nephrologists Committee members, and the ISN Social Media Team, as well as to all speakers and moderators.

So many dedicated people are involved in making this meeting the best place for scientific debate, knowledge-sharing, and connecting with others. See you there!
