Dr. Venkatram Murugesan recently spent six months training through the ISN Fellowship Program with Dr. Yong-Soo Kim at Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital in Seoul, South Korea – a recognized ISN Interventional Nephrology Training Center.
Dr. Murugesan has now returned home to Pondicherry, India, where he is keen to put his fellowship training to good use. He explains,“[Currently,] all patients are referred to Chennai – 160 kilometers from my hometown, or to vascular surgeons for vascular interventions. Thanks to my training, I can address their issues and thus help several patients receive timely and cost-effective treatment.”
Dr. Murugesan continues, “I am confident about starting endovascular procedures in my hometown. I also plan to conduct programs to educate my patients, dialysis technicians and colleagues regarding arteriovenous fistula clinical examination, which is lacking in India. Through this, I will be able to provide much better care to hemodialysis patients.”
The ISN Fellowship Program offers hands-on training opportunities to ISN members from low, lower-middle, and upper-middle-income countries to meet the kidney care needs of their community. The next application deadline is May 1, 2023. Find out everything you need to know about the ISN Fellowship Program here.
In addition to ISN Fellowships, the ISN offers Interventional Nephrology Scholarships for short-term training opportunities at ISN Interventional Nephrology Training Centers. Learn more here.
