The 19th Ho Chi Minh City Urology and Nephrology Association (HUNA) and the 16th Vietnam Urology and Nephrology Association (VUNA) Congress 2022 took place in Qui Nhơn City, Bình Định, Vietnam, from 18-20 August.
The meeting, held in a hybrid format, included one and a half days of special sessions organized by ISN Regional Training Center liaison officer Dr. Huong Thi Bich Tran, Vice President of both HUNA and VUNA.
The ISN Continuing Medical Education (CME) Program supported Dr. Vivek Kute to travel to Vietnam to attend and participate in the event. Dr. Kute is Professor of Nephrology and Transplantation at the Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Center and the Dr. HL Trivedi Institute of Transplantation Sciences in Ahmedabad, India.
Dr. Kute delivered two talks at the congress:
- “Resuscitating for Organ Protection in Donor With Brain Death”
- “Challenges and Solution for Deceased Donor Transplantation Indian Experience”
In addition, he visited Cho Ray Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, the largest transplant center in South Vietnam.
The ISN participated in the online program, with members Dr. Lily Mushahar (Malaysia), president of the Malaysian Society of Nephrology, presenting on medical care for advanced chronic kidney disease and Dr. Cheuk Chun Szeto (Hong Kong) on dialyzing end-stage renal disease in patients with heart failure. Dr. Huong Tran translated English content into Vietnamese for delegates.
According to Dr. Huong Tran, one of the main challenges for developing kidney care in the region are a lack of knowledge and experience in treating glomerulopathy, one of the most common diseases in the region, leading to late diagnosis and overuse of steroids.
The ISN looks forward to supporting similar meetings in the future to help advance kidney care in Vietnam.
