The World Kidney Day (WKD) Steering Committee submits an annual scientific editorial to a range of medical journals as part of WKD efforts to increase kidney disease awareness.

The authors encourage kidney organizations to work to shift responsibility for patient health literacy away from patients and toward health care providers and policymakers.
They recommend establishing codesigned partnerships between these groups to facilitate communication and education and reduce the deficit in patient health literacy.
The editorial was jointly written by volunteer nephrologists involved in the campaign and will appear in some 20 journals.
