Celebrating ISN Collective-Member Societies: The Korean Society of Nephrology
Throughout 2021, the ISN is presenting its Collective-Member Societies through a series of interviews. As part of the current focus on the ISN South Asia region, we spoke to the President of the Korean Society of Nephrology (KSN), Professor Chul Woo Yang, about KSN’s recent initiatives to advance kidney health.
To mark World Kidney Day, the KSN developed an online program, “Kidney Keeper Week,” to highlight the importance of kidney health and promoted the event through local media outlets, encouraging patients to take the #MyGr8Rule challenge. In addition, the KSN started a YouTube Channel for the general public to raise kidney health awareness locally throughout the year.
To stay connected with other local health societies during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the KSN organized a COVID-19 Task Force Team (KSN TFT) to keep regional health organizations in touch with government directives. This team provides staff and dialysis machines to hospitals to ensure cohort isolation and has developed guidelines and strategies to prevent the secondary transmission of COVID-19 in hemodialysis units. In addition, the KSN TFT distributes press releases and the latest information on the coronavirus, including outbreak locations and vaccination schedules.
The KSN is currently celebrating its 40th anniversary. The official KSN’s journal, Kidney Research and Clinical Practice, was indexed on
Science Citation Index ExpandedTM and ranked Q1 in the Scientific Journal Ranking’s evaluation. The KSN recently began a clinical trial on shared decision-making for better dialysis modalities and initiated the project “Homecare of peritoneal dialysis,” supported by the Korean Health Ministry.
The ISN will be represented in the scientific program at KSN’s annual conference during the KSN-ISN Joint Symposium on September 4: Professor Vivek Jha will introduce the ISN-GKHA project and Professor Agnes Fogo will present a talk on prognostic markers in GN pathology.
The KSN joined the ISN as a Collective-Member Society in 2020. Find out more about ISN Collective-Member Society status here.
