ISN Collective-Member Societies Interviews: The Spanish Society of Nephrology
The Spanish Society of Nephrology (SENEFRO) joined the ISN as a Collective-Member Society over a decade ago.
Spain is currently active in two ISN-TTS Sister Transplant Centers in collaboration with the University of Barcelona and has hosted 17 ISN Fellows from seven different countries over the last ten years.
In 2020, the ISN and SENEFRO held three joint webinars in Spanish attended by over three hundred participants. More such webinars are planned to take place later this year.
We contacted Dr. Borja Quiroga, a member of the Board of Directors at SENEFRO, to find out how the organization had adapted its initiatives during the COVID 19 pandemic:
The Society has continued its range of programs to take place mainly online, improving its online learning platform in the process.
Its national congress and several educational courses took place virtually, including modules on anemia, onco-nephrology, glomerulonephritis, mineral and bone disorders, dyslipidemia, and atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome.
The Society endorsed a range of external webinars to members and provided online courses in hypertension and peritoneal and hemodialysis to enable Fellows to continue training programs.
The SENEFRO Council Program is currently developing two major activities:
- A new degree qualification, in collaboration with Spanish universities for nephrologists who complete a set number of online courses.
- A homogenous program comprising videos, chapters, and clinical cases to guide nephrology teachers in Spanish universities is also in progress.
The ISN looks forward to occasions for constructive discussions with colleagues from SENEFRO at WCN’21.
