China’s nephrology community experiences ISN Regional Training Center conference
The Silk-Road Forum of Kidney Disease, held from August 16 to 18, 2018 in Lanzhou (China), was a valuable platform for nephrologists from North West China and Middle Asia to learn, interact and build their knowledge of nephrology.
Endorsed by ISN and attended by ISN President David Harris, it was organized by the National Clinical Research Center of Kidney Diseases, Jinling Hospital in Nanjing and the Nephrology Division at Lanzhou University School of Medicine.
In 2017, the National Clinical Research Center of Kidney Disease became an ISN Regional Training Center. Over the next three to five years, it will welcome and provide comprehensive training programs for fellows from Middle Asia and North West China.
Commenting on the value of this kind of meeting, David Harris noted that the conference not only helps to implement ISN’s mission of advancing kidney health worldwide, ‘it also popularizes comprehensive nephrology and strengthens ISN’s position with national and regional affiliated societies in developing jointly-funded ISN Programs that focus on more disadvantaged areas within the country and region.’
More than 400 delegates from North West China took part. Speakers, including former ISN Fellows, also traveled from the Silk-Road countries and Middle Asia to share their expertise with the community.
Following the success of this meeting, organisers hope it will become an annual event in North West China as well as one of ISN’s distinguished Continuing Medical Education courses and regional training programs in China.
