William Couser to be given 2018 ASN John P. Peters Award
Past ISN President and previous ISN Programs Chairman William G Couser is set to receive this year’s John P Peters Award from the American Society of Nephrology (ASN). A great testimony to his long-standing contribution to nephrology.
William Couser is currently Affiliate Professor of Medicine in the Department of Medicine at the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle, USA. He retired from a position as the Belding H Scribner Professor of Medicine and Head of the Division of Nephrology at the University of Washington in 2004.
Dr. Couser is internationally recognized for his research on immune mechanisms of kidney disease. Following his term as President of ISN, he served for six years as Director of the ISN Global Outreach Programs (ISN GO, now called ISN Programs).
The Peters Award highlights individuals who have made ‘substantial research contributions to the discipline of nephrology and also have sustained achievements in one or more additional domains of academic medicine including clinical care, education and leadership.’
The award will be presented to Dr. Couser at a plenary session at ASN Kidney Week in San Diego on October 27, 2018.
