Nestor Schor, MD, PhD died unexpectedly in Sao Paulo, Brazil at the age of 71. He graduated from the Federal University of Sao Paulo Medical School in 1972, and in 1977 received his PhD degree from the same University, where he was Head of the Internal Medicine and Nephrology Divisions and the President of the Oswaldo Ramos Foundation. He was a post doc fellow at the Harvard Medical School and Cornell Medical School during the 1990s.
During his remarkable career, he published more than 200 scientific articles in indexed Journals, tutored a large number of nephrology fellows and PhD students. Also during the 1990’s, he was the President of the Brazilian Society of Nephrology. Nestor received many awards, such as the Award for Scientific Merit from Science and Technology Minister (2002); the International Medal from National Kidney Foundation-USA (2003); and the Lifetime Achievement Award for “Recognition of Outstanding Lifetime Contributions to the Field of Urolithiasis Research” (2012).
Related to ISN, he was the President of the Local Organizing Committee for the World Congress of Nephrology in Rio de Janeiro (2007) and the recipient of the ISN Pioneers Award (2017).
