ISN participates in high-level WHO meeting in Copenhagen

Last week, ISN joined European health ministers and high-level representatives from 53 Member States at the 66th session of the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Committee for Europe to discuss the challenges of tackling the burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in Europe.

At the meeting, ISN strongly supported the goals and implementation of the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals and Health 2020 for the prevention and control of NCDs.

It also called for heightened awareness of the clinical, economic and social burdens of kidney disease, which are at present frequently underestimated.

Valerie Luyckx, who represented ISN at the meeting commented: “It is very encouraging to see the engagement and commitment of all the European health ministries in supporting the holistic approach to health in their populations through achieving universal health care, strong support for the NCD Action Plan and acknowledgement of the life-course approach to prevention of NCDs. Great action plans are now in place and as discussed here, it is the time for effective and ongoing implementation.”
