ISN welcomes new Treasurer
The ISN Executive Committee is pleased to announce that Stuart Shankland, Belding H. Scribner, Endowed Chair of Medicine, Professor of Medicine and Head, Division of Nephrology at University of Washington, Seattle, USA, will assume the position of Treasurer of the ISN.
Effective today, Professor Shankland will assume all Treasurer responsibilities, including governance of ISN finances, managing ISN endowment, and contributing to the Society’s strategy and critical business areas. The ISN is very grateful to Professor Thomas Coffman for the excellent work as ISN Treasurer until now and for his dedication to the Society. The ISN Executive Committee invites all ISN members and related professional societies to join us in congratulating Professor Shankland and welcoming him as the ISN Treasurer.
Professor Shankland obtained his medical degree at the University of Cape Town, South Africa. He moved to Canada thereafter, and completed his internal medicine residency and nephrology fellowship at the University of Toronto, Canada. Following additional postdoctoral training at the University of Washington, Seattle, USA, he continued as faculty in the Division of Nephrology. Dr. Shankland is clinically active, and is invested in the education of local and foreign trainees. His research focuses on basic and translational aspects of glomerular disease, where he has published over 150 papers.
In addition to expertise he has gained as a result of his extensive scholarly, editorial, and administrative work within academia, Professor Shankland brings to the ISN a range of strategic financial skills gained outside academia, skills that will serve the ISN well in promoting its mission of advancing kidney care worldwide.
