Call for expressions of interest/nominations for
ISN World Kidney Day Joint Steering Committee, ISN Member

The ISN welcomes expressions of interest/nominations for the position of ISN member of the World Kidney Day (WKD) Joint Steering Committee (JSC). The position will start at the World Congress of Nephrology 2025 (WCN’25).

About the WKD JSC

WKD started in 2006 and is a joint initiative of the ISN and the International Federation of Kidney Foundations – World Kidney Alliance (IFKF-WKA). It is the leading kidney health awareness campaign at global level and strives to raise awareness on the importance of kidney health and reduce the frequency of kidney disease and its associated health impacts worldwide.

The WKD JSC represents the two partner organizations who founded WKD (ISN and IFKF-WKA) with the aim to oversee the implementation of the WKD campaign. The WKD JSC’s role is to agree on the specific goals and deliverables of the campaign plan and to foster the success of the campaign. Each organization appoints 5 members to the WKD JSC.

The Role 

The role and responsibilities of ISN members on the WKD JSC include:

  • Establishing the WKD campaign as a key advocacy, communication and awareness-raising initiative aimed at promoting kidney health among external stakeholders, including the general public, international and national decision-makers, patients, and others relevant groups.
  • Serving as a key link between the WKD JSC and ISN leadership/ISN Executive Committee (ExCom), to ensure consistent information flow.
  • Enhancing the visibility of the WKD campaign at international, regional, and national levels.
  • Ensuring that ISN’s perspectives and requirements are well understood and effectively represented within the WKD JSC.
  • Representing the ISN leadership on the WKD JSC, ensuring that WKD’s strategic work plans and annual budgets align with ISN’s strategic objectives. Regular communication about WKD activities with ISN Regional Boards, ISN ExCom and the WKD ISN Project Director is expected on a regular basis.
  • Actively participating in WKD campaign teleconferences and related meetings.
  • Identifying and developing opportunities for collaboration between WKD and other ISN programs and initiatives, ensuring its integration with other ISN activities. Regular communication with the ISN Advocacy Working Group and Patient Liaison Advisory Group is encouraged whenever possible.

Selection Criteria 

  • Demonstrated professional distinction, particularly in kidney health advocacy, education, and awareness-raising within their country or region.
  • Strong understanding of issues specific to WKD and a commitment to its objective, including advocacy and awareness-raising.
  • Regular email access and availability for conference calls.
  • Active interest in ISN activities.
  • ISN member in good standing.

Additional information

The position will start at WCN’25 for an initial term of approximately 2-years until WCN’27. The position may be renewed for up to two further terms, to a maximum of approximately 6 years (note: renewal is not automatic and based on group’s needs).
