Prevention and Management: ongoing efforts and outcomes
Although the cause of CKDu/Mesoamerican nephropathy remains unknown, the devastating consequence of kidney failure in populations with few resources to support dialysis, one of the most expensive therapies in the world, makes preventative measures a matter of urgency.
Several groups in Mesoamerica are working with employers to implement adequate rest and hydration during strenuous work periods in high-risk populations.
