ISN Journal Editorial Selections on eGFR Decline and ADPKD Patient Perspectives

Kidney International®

A Randomized, Open-label Clinical Trial Examined the Effects of Canagliflozin on Albuminuria and eGFR Decline Using An Individual Pre-Intervention eGFR Slope

The CANPIONE study showed that canagliflozin significantly reduced albuminuria by 30.8% and slowed eGFR decline in patients with type 2 diabetes and microalbuminuria.

Using a novel design comparing eGFR slopes before and during treatment, the study highlighted the potential of this approach for assessing kidney therapies in early chronic kidney disease with smaller, shorter trials.

Kidney International Reports®

Perspectives of Patients and Clinicians on Reproductive Healthcare and Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease (ADPKD)

This qualitative study examined patient and clinician perspectives on reproductive care in ADPKD.

Focus groups with 31 participants in the Netherlands identified six themes: timely information from puberty, patient-specific decision-making, psychosocial support, care for at-risk minors, addressing inequities, and multidisciplinary collaboration.

Findings highlight gaps and offer recommendations to improve patient-centered, interdisciplinary care.
