Kidney International®
This study assessed in-hospital outcomes and related factors in 1,024 adult patients diagnosed with post-earthquake crush syndrome following the 2023 earthquakes in Kahramanmaraş, Türkiye.
A 9.8% mortality rate was reported. Nonsurvivors were older, were more likely to have preexisting chronic kidney disease, and faced severe complications like hypotension, arrhythmias, acute kidney injury and compartment syndrome.
The improved mortality rate compared to previous earthquakes may be attributed to better disaster preparedness and healthcare infrastructure.

Reporting of Race, Ethnicity, and Ancestry Remains Inadequate in Kidney Research
This paper examines the use of race, ethnicity, and ancestry in kidney research, highlighting the inconsistencies and lack of standardized reporting.
The authors analyzed kidney research publications and found that while race was frequently used, definitions and data collection methods were often unclear or missing.
The results emphasize the need for improved reporting practices to ensure accurate and equitable research outcomes.
