ISN-KI Editorial Fellowship: Call for Expressions of Interest

We are now calling for expressions of interest from our Early Career Nephrologists and Scientists as ISN-KI Editorial Fellows in 2025-2027. ISN-KI Fellowships are non-funded positions, designed for earlycareer professionals and academics working in the field of nephrology, dialysis, and transplantation, and those interested in learning how to critically assess a manuscript, work as a team to evaluate the priority of manuscripts in a broader context, and manage editorial responsibilities within the context of a highly cited, top-ranked, reputable Nephrology journal.

The current call includes: 

    1. Early Career Nephrology Fellows with a record of rising trajectory in clinical and basic science nephrological research
    2. He/she will be supervised and mentored by an Associate Editor and/or the Editor-in-Chief of Kidney International® and Kidney International Reports® during 24 months of their training and learn how to:
      • Handle submitted manuscripts
      • Handle revised/resubmitted manuscripts
      • Invite reviewers for a first review 
      • Make the first decision
      • Make final acceptance decisions 
      • Review submitted/resubmitted manuscripts 

The Fellows are expected to attend the weekly Editorial meeting (maximum 90 mins) at 1 pm (Central European Summer Time) 

Eligibility  

  • The individuals can be from any of the ISN regions 
  • Must be an ISN member of good standing 
  • Must have a Ph.D. or M.D. or similar degree 
  • Must have a research portfolio in clinical and/or basic nephrological research 
  • Must be in the early stages of their research career (no more than 7 years after receiving his/her doctorate, higher degree, or research/clinical Fellowship). 

Process  

  • The KI Board of Editors will select the preferred nominees. 
  • The applicant must submit:
    • A short curriculum vitae with statement of relevant skills and expertise
    • A letter of intent
    • A letter of recommendation by their mentors
  • Once approved, the individual is notified that she/he has been awarded the title of “ISN-KI Editorial Fellow,” effective October 2025 – October 2027. 
  • Regular review and progress report is expected.  

Expectations from ISN-KI Editorial Fellowship Awardees 

  • Acknowledgement of ISN-KI fellow designation at meetings where ISN project related work is presented 
  • Use of the ISN-KI fellow designation on publications where appropriate 
  • ISN membership renewal 
  • Contribution to ISN Renal News and Website
