CONTEXT OF THE CONSULTATION

Kidney disease is increasingly recognized as a major public health problem in countries around the world. To better address this growing disease burden, the ISN plans to advocate for UN Member States to formally request the World Health Organization to put the WHO resolution on kidney disease to a vote at the World Health Assembly in May 2025, so that it is recognized as a priority non-communicable disease (NCD) alongside cardiovascular disease, cancer, respiratory disease and diabetes. The WHO resolution on kidney disease would provide a unique opportunity to advance global kidney health and strengthen international commitment to addressing this urgent public health challenge as we approach the 4th High-Level Meeting on Non-Communicable Diseases to be held during the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in September 2025.
