The ISN Supports Member’s Training Program for Pediatric Nephrologists to Help Advance Kidney Care in Africa – Read a Recently Published Paper on Its Impact

Over the last 20 years, Mignon McCulloch and her team have trained 38 fellows in pediatric nephrology (PN) at the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital in Cape Town, South Africa. Today, the Red Cross Hospital is one of four ISN Regional Training Centers in the country.
The ISN Fellowship Program supported fifteen of these fellows. Many of them have gone on to make a real difference in kidney care in their home regions: Privilage Makanda and Thembisile Mosalakatane became the first pediatric nephrologists in their respective home countries, Zimbabwe and Botswana, and Paul Mashanga became the second pediatric nephrologist in Zambia after they completed fellowships jointly supported by the ISN and the International Pediatric Nephrology Association. Dr. McCulloch thanked the ISN and the International Society for Peritoneal Dialysis for their support, commenting, “We are really proud of the teamwork in training this group of pediatric nephrology fellows to return to Africa where they continue their good work.
