Particulate Matter of Air Pollution May Increase Risk of Kidney Failure in IgA Nephropathy.
Environmental pollution has been associated with the progression of chronic kidney disease in the general population. This study specifically investigated the influence of exposure to fine particulate matter less than 2.5 μm in diameter (PM2.5) on IgAN progression.
Kidney International Reports
The authors highlight the successful aspects of the kidney disease screening and awareness program (KDSAP) – a decade-old educational model that selects undergraduates in US universities and develops their interest in nephrology. The KDSAP has an outreach program that provides free screenings for CKD risk factors and educational events to raise public awareness of kidney disease.
The results suggest that PM2.5 is an independent risk factor for kidney failure in patients with IgAN.
