WCN 2013 opens to bright colors and lights

JF opening ceremony webOn Friday, ISN President Prof. John Feehally and the Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee, Prof. Philip Li, gave the World Congress 2013 attendees a warm welcome and fired the starting pistol to a world-class scientific program.

This reflects ISN’s efforts to advance renal care in both the developed and the developing world and it will prove that both can learn a lot from each other. WCN 2013 would not have been possible without the support and partnership of the Asian Pacific Society of Nephrology (APSN) and the Hong Kong Society of Nephrology (HKSN). The Presidents of both societies, Prof. Yasuhiko Tomino for the APSN and Dr. Samuel Fung for the HKSN, greeted the nephrologists from all over the world and expressed their high expectations for the meeting.

Opening ceremony webA fascinating fluorescent light dragon dance caught the attention of the nephrology community and gave a glimpse into the rich traditions of the Chinese hosts. Another highlight of the ceremony was a very original
musical performance which was dedicated to the dialysis and transplantation patients in Hong Kong.

A unique sand painting performance took the audience on a journey that paid tribute to the role of ISN, APSN, HKSN and WCN for nephrology in Hong Kong and worldwide.

The opening plenary lecture gave the auditorium some food for thought and a lot to discuss further during the welcome reception at the exhibition that was opened after the ceremony.
