The ISN Strengthens Relations with the United
Nations
The ISN is pleased to announce that the society has been officially granted
consultative status to the United Nations' (UN) Economic and Social Committee
(ECOSOC).
|
ECOSOC is one of the six main organs of the UN system that works to advance the
three dimensions of sustainable development - economic, social, and
environmental. It is the only main UN body with a formal framework for NGO
participation.
|
Obtaining Special Consultative Status with ECOSOC is a significant step to
securing ISN's presence within multiple UN initiatives and allowing the ISN to
access ECOSOC's many subsidiary bodies and forums, multiple human rights
mechanisms of the UN, and special events organized by the president of the
General Assembly.
|
The ISN looks forward to working closely with ECOSOC and contributing to the
UN's work to advance kidney health and tackle the global burden of kidney
disease.
|
|
|
The ISN encourages all to download
the framework and share it with health care workers, patients, and
policymakers.

We spoke to PSN President Noel M. Castillo about ongoing local initiatives to
raise kidney health awareness in the region, including World Kidney Day (WKD) activities.
|
Every June, designated national 'Kidney Month' in the Philippines, the PSN
organizes an extended awareness-raising campaign in collaboration with the
Government Department of Health. Alongside the Philippine College of Physicians
(PCP) and the National Kidney and Transplant Institute, kidney health care and
kidney disease prevention are highlighted in a press conference and promoted
through national press outlets and public forums and activities.

Annexin A1 Alleviates Kidney Injury by Promoting
the Resolution of Inflammation in Diabetic Nephropathy
The failed resolution of inflammation is a significant contributor to the
progression of diabetic nephropathy. Identifying endogenously-generated
molecules that promote the physiological resolution of inflammation could
offer a promising therapeutic approach for this disease.
|
In this video, Liang Wu presents her findings on the
endogenous mediator Annexin A1 as a promising therapeutic approach to treating
and reversing diabetic nephropathy.
