The Bernd Tersteegen prize rewards basic and clinical research related to chronic renal insufficiency and advances in treating end-stage renal disease.
The award was established following the death of Dr. Bernd Tersteegen in 1995. Tersteegen was the founder of the Verband Deutsche Nierenzentren (DN) e.V. and was dedicated to improving outpatient treatment modalities in end-stage renal disease. He specifically focused on further technical development of hemodialysis.
